Anniversary Day Trip to Palm Springs

This post is sponsored by Palm Springs but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

My husband and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary this month and we wanted to do something different and local to celebrate. We didn’t want to travel too far since it’s a busy time of year, but we also wanted to get out and have a little fun! We decided to visit Palm Springs because it’s not too far from us and it’s like a whole different world with lots to do! We didn’t have a set itinerary, just wanted to meander around the downtown area and window shop mostly.

We ventured out early and luckily it only took us about an hour to get there from where we live. It was a perfect California day too, with no clouds in sight. It was probably around 70 degrees tops, which was absolutely perfect for walking around and exploring Palm Springs.

Our first stop was Townies Bagels, a local owned bagel shop. It wasn’t too crowded when we got there so we checked out the menu and decided on a whole wheat bagel with Nutella for myself, a jalapeño bagel with egg, ham and cheddar for my husband and two coffees. They had plenty of seating, even a nice couch set up you could lounge around on. I noticed the artwork on the walls instantly and one of the cheerful employees told me they change artists every now and then. I love that they help the local artists!

We met one of the owners, Andy, who was extremely nice and welcoming! He allowed me to take his picture back by their ovens…which by the way are the cleanest ovens I’ve ever seen. They make all their own bagels and breads, and you can tell! My husband loved his jalapeño bagel and commented on how good it was, which isn’t something he does very often. They serve locally roasted coffee from Joshua Tree too, which gave the whole place more of a local feel.

After breakfast at Townies Bagels we hoped in the car and decided to just wander around since we were in no hurry. We stumbled on Bones-n-Scones just down the street and since we can’t leave our German Shepherds empty pawed, we stopped in.

Bones-n-Scones is a pet nutritional store that is locally owned and well-loved by the community. I was told they were moving to a larger location just down the street to accommodate their growing inventory and make the people of Palm Springs happier shoppers! We were told that they carry freshly baked treats made with human quality ingredients so naturally my husband had to pick some out to bring home to our dogs. The store was really welcoming, well laid out and they carried a good selection of inventory. We were even told they make bone shaped cakes for dogs!

We found our way to the Antique Mall on Sunny Dunes and figured we’d take a peak around. Palm Springs is filled with old history and I was excited to check out what luxe antiques and treasures were hidden in there! We were informed that this particular antique mall was over 6,000 sq. ft. and housed 30 different local venders. They’ve been in business for about seven years and each of the venders are required to work the shop a few days a month as part of their agreement. They had literally everything inside, but the Christmas decor was my favorite! It was really fun to see the old comics and vinyl records as well as all the decor I remember from when I was little. My husband and I had fun browsing through their huge collection of collectables from the past.

We ended up parking on Palm Canyon Drive and walking around. It’s amazing what Palm Springs has to offer. From local boutiques and restaurants, clubs, bed and breakfasts and even the famous stars on the side walk lining Palm Canyon Drive. There really is something for everyone in Palm Springs, and it’s not hard to find something to do!

For a Sunday morning, Palm Springs was surprisingly busy, but not too busy to make it intimidating! It seemed like there was a good mix of locals and tourists and everyone was smiling! The weather was perfect, so it would make anyone smile!

We found ourselves at the Palm Springs Historical Society in The Village Green Heritage Center. We learned that the museum is housed in the McCallum adobe, which is the oldest house still standing in the Palm Springs area. It dates back to 1884! There was no photography allowed in the museum but I can say that it was a treat! They had quite a few pieces from Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz as well as pictures of Frank Sinatra. It was interesting to walk through and learn about the history of Palm Springs. It wasn’t too large or too overwhelming which was nice! The best part is, is that it’s free! They welcome donations but you’re not obligated at all. There are tons of other museums and tours to enjoy while you’re in the area, and next time we will definitely make sure we check them out.

Our last stop for the day was to a little bath and body boutique called Lavish. I love pamper products, so the husband figured we’d stop in so I can take a peak around. The girls working were extremely helpful and really knowledgable! They make their own products and you are able to customize your scents, which is something I’ve never seen before. They offer a free hand treatment, and let me tell you, it’s worth it! It only takes a few minutes, but you’ll leave with the softest hands! I caved and bought a custom body oil that smells absolutely divine!

When we got in the car to head back home, we both agreed that we needed to come back soon. I’ve already been looking at some of the local hotels to stay at when we go back. There is so much to do in Palm Springs and there is so much to learn about its history! I can’t wait to go back and check off some of the museums and tours, restaurants and shops that I already have on my list!

Wedding Dress Preservation

I’ve been married for a year now, and I finally got around to preserving my wedding dress a few months back. Before I even bought my dress, I was planning on selling it after the wedding. I thought it would be a perfect way to make some money back, since I spent way more than I wanted to on it in the first place. It was “the one”, so there was no way I wasn’t going to pay, and it was 100% worth it! I just didn’t think I would actually get attached to the dress. I did, and after the wedding I decided I was going to have it preserved. The thought of selling it literally made me cry. Plus, it’s been altered to fit me and I’m short, so I kept telling myself no one will buy it!

I researched the different companies that do gown preservation and checked pricing with everyone local. I’ve had a few friends use the preservation kit from David’s Bridal and though I was super apprehensive, I decided to check it out.

I don’t remember exactly what I paid because I waited for a sale, but I think it was around $100. That’s honestly pretty cheap considering all the pricing I collected from local places around me.

It took me about five months to actually send it in because I was so scared!

It was easy to pack up and the instructions in the kit were really thorough. They have an option for you to upgrade your insurance, and I opted for that one right away just because I was so nervous about sending my dress off. I didn’t have my veil preserved because I had purchased it off Amazon and it would have cost me more to preserve than it did to buy. I did add my stole because I absolutely love the look of it and know I won’t be wearing it or using it for anything else.

When you buy the kit, it has everything you need to pack up your dress and accessories. It even has free shipping! I was really happy about that one! You can add extra insurance and upgrade the box to make it personalized if you want. I only upgraded my insurance because a plain box is fine with me. I’m not planning on putting my dress on display, only storing it in a closet most likely.

It took about two weeks from when I sent it in to get it back, which was quick in my opinion! I expected a month or so! They e-mailed me when they received it, which really helped with my anxiety about the whole thing. They also gave me another chance to upgrade before they started working on my dress. I thought that was nice, since we all change our minds sometimes!

When I received my dress back it was packed perfectly! There is even plastic wrap over the box it’s in to protect it that much more! I’m not planning on taking it out of the packaging until years from now, so it will stay as is.

I would highly recommend preserving your gown through David’s Bridal. Check for coupon codes and wait for a sale though, because I did and saved at least $50! I’m really happy with the way it looks and I love that the packing is so secure. I didn’t opt to have them fix anything like the bustles or loose beading because I didn’t have any tares or missing beads from what I could tell before I sent it off. I didn’t upgrade either, which is $50 more. I probably should have, but I opted out and don’t really regret my decision.

My advice to anyone looking to preserve their wedding dress is to look around and do your research. Make sure you know what type of material your dress is and make sure that a preservation kit like the one from David’s Bridal will work on your particular dress. You might want a fancy display case or an upgraded service, so keep that in mind when looking for a service.

L’Oreal Pure-Clay Mask

My review was originally post over at Beauty Savers!

Clay masks are my favorite, so when I saw the L’Oreal Pure-Clay Mask on the shelf at Walmart, I had to give it a go.

L’Oreal has five different clay masks that target different skin concerns. I opted for the Detox and Brighten with three pure clays and charcoal since my skin has been a bit congested lately.

First of all, a clay mask for under $15?!? Yes please! I don’t mind spending good money on amazing skin care, but I also don’t mind saving money on amazing skin care!

I treated myself to a spa night after my mask find and was actually surprised with how amazing my skin felt afterwards.

I started with my normal skin care routine of double cleansing and cleansing. I then hoped in the shower; something I like to do when I try a new mask. The warm water helps open the pores so the mask can really get in there and do its job.

After my shower I applied the Pure Clay Detox and Brighten Mask. It applied super easily and was a breeze to spread on my skin. It’s thick, but not as thick as some clay masks I’ve worked with in the past. It has a super soft texture too, which I really liked! The mask has a pleasant scent that isn’t over powering at all.

I followed the instructions and left the mask on for 15 minutes. It was pretty dried down by then but surprisingly it didn’t make my face too tight like other clay masks I’ve tried.

Washing it off takes a bit of time, just like with every other clay mask. I suggest applying, waiting and then taking a shower because clay masks tend to be messy. It wasn’t as messy as I thought it was going to be, and didn’t pull on my skin as I rinsed it off.

My skin was smooth and ready for the rest of my skin care products after rinsing. My skin felt really clean and I didn’t experience any dryness whatsoever. I think I’ve found an inexpensive winner to add to my collection! I totally recommend the L’Oreal Detox and Brighten Pure Clay Mask!

OhLolly – Korean Beauty Boutique

I’m a huuuuuuge huge kbeauty fan. It has honestly changed the way I look at not only skincare, but beauty in general. The Western beauty industry is so different and fast paced. Kbeauty, to me at least, is all about natural quality ingredients and taking your time. Most of the brands I reach for are formulated with century old ingredients and recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. I’ve noticed that those brands are all family owned as well…which is something I absolutely love. Not only do I love the companies backgrounds and what they are about, I love the products. There is something about slapping snail mucin on your face at night and waking up to glowing and über hydrated skin! I can preach all day about my kbeauty obsession, seriously.

Kbeauty is becoming a lot more trendy and accessible, but it’s hard for newbie to decipher what brands and products will best work for them and their skin types. There are thousands and thousands of brands out there and it’s really hard to navigate if you don’t speak or read Korean, or know what you’re looking for.

OhLolly is here for us! They will guide you through their careful curations of mostly all natural kbeauty brands and educate you on the ingredients, products and the brand themselves. What I love about shopping with OhLolly, is that I know Sue and Herra (the owners and founders) tested the products in their shop and gave them the thumbs up before ever adding them to their website for sale.

I was lucky enough to attend a fun get together hosted by OhLolly and Chie of (follow her on Instagram!!!). Sue and Herra opened the doors to the OhLolly office in Torrance, CA and let a handful of us touch and try the products they sell. They talked to us about the different brands, what they like from the brands, what new products they are bringing in and really helped with any and all questions we had about the products and kbeauty in general. They even opened their warehouse for us to shop and offered an amazing discount…so no one could pass up filling their bags!

I purchased a few things and will be testing them out in the next few weeks. I already fell in love with the Urang Brightening Blue Oil Serum and Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask I purchased. I also grabbed a backup of the CosRX Advanced Snail Mucin Power Essence. I snagged a few masks from 23 Years Old and the Balancing Gel from Pyunkang Yul.

OhLolly also sent us on our way with an amazing goodie bag filled with products from some of their best-selling brands.

OhLolly has converted me and turned me into a customer! I have to say, it was really nice to meet the owners, Sue and Herra, and get to know them. They are two of the sweetest women, and they truly care about the products they sell their customers.

Make sure to swing by OhLolly and use the code OHLOLLYLOVE for 10% off your first order!

The Newlyweds Gift List

It’s hard to figure out what certain people need or want for the holidays. I know I don’t like gifting impractical items and I want to get something that person or couple will actually enjoy and use. I’m still somewhat of a newlywed (one year down!), so I decided to use my status to create this gift list!

A Fandango Gift Card is sure to be used and appreciated! We all need date nights!

This custom vase from Susabellas is perfect for any newlywed and will for sure be treasured! I ordered some gifts from them for my wedding and I was really pleased with he quality and craftsmanship!

Another idea from Susabellas is these custom appetizer plates. These caught my eye and I know I’d absolutely love these in our collection!

This leather-bound photo album is such a great keepsake for any newlywed couple, as long as their not vegan! They can customize any way you’d like and it’s bound to last for years and years!

Restaurant gift cards are also a good way to go for the newlywed couple on your list this year. Date nights are always welcomed, and even better when they are gifted!

The Makeup Tag

What foundation do you use?

I use a different just about every darn day. I just picked up the Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation and Concealer and Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth. I really enjoy Wet n Wild Photo Focus and Too Faced Born This Way. I have yet to find my holy grail, so my goal is to try them all until I do!

How about concealer?

I’ve been enjoying L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer lately. I also like Kokie Cosmetics Be Bright Liquid Concealer.

Do you know your undertone color?

Yes! So important when picking products, especially foundation! I’m on the warm, but can pass with neutral products a lot of times.

What do you think of fake lashes?

Truth?!? I don’t know how to apply them. I wish I did, and want to learn! I think they are absolutely gorgeous, and love how amazing they look on!

Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?

Sure did, and I am really careful about this! I have tossed so many mascaras in my life, it’s not even funny! I also toss eyeliners when they get up there.

What brand of mascara do you use?

Maybelline has always been my go to brand. I also love NYX and Buxom.

Sephora or MAC?

Can I have both? I honestly haven’t walking into a MAC store in about a year, but frequent Sephora. I love both, so you can’t make me choose!

What make-up tools do you use in make up application?

I use brushes (obviously) and beauty sponges. I use to only use Beauty Blenders, but have been trying other brands recently.

Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?

I have, but I don’t really reach for it because I hardly do my eyeshadow. I’ll normally use my foundation or concealer if I decide to paint my eyes.

For the face?

I think I always use primer now before my foundation. I’ve been loving the new Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen.

What is your favorite eyeshadow?

I love Makeup Geek and PUR shadows.

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?

Both! I’m not much of a liner girl, but I will use either or depending on my mood.

How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?

Almost every time I break out an eyeliner pencil, which isn’t that frequent.

What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?

I think they are gorgeous! I love the products that are available!

Do you use mineral make-up?

I have in the past and still have my MAC mineral powder that I absolutely love!

What is your favorite lipstick?

Really?!? I have too many to list! I love Tarte Lip Paint, anything by Pixi, Buxom, Makeup Geek and MAC.

How about lip gloss?

Honestly, only Buxom glosses do anything for me. I’m not a huge gloss fan to begin with, but I reach for Buxom’s often.

What is your favorite blush to use?

Nars Orgasm or Deep Throat (cute huh?!?). Also, Pixi’s Rome Rose!

Do you buy your make-up online?if so where?

Sometimes! I shop Ulta and Sephora mainly, but love Beautylish, Nordstrom and Macy’s.

Do you like drugstore make-up?

Yes! I wasn’t a big fan a few years back, but am trying more and more. I’ve been really enjoying some of the drugstore products I own.

Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?

I’ve always wanted to go to cosmetology school, but know I wouldn’t be any good at it. I love makeup, but lack the serious skills required.

Are you clumsy in putting on make-up?

It depends on what I’m doing. Eyeliner, yes! Eyeshadow, yes! I’m pretty confident with my foundation skills though!
Name a make-up crime that you hate?

I hate obviously over-lined lips and dark blush! I also can’t stand super dark eyebrows.

Do you like colorful shades of make-up or neutral ones?

I’m more of a neutral girl myself but if you asked me 15 years ago, I’d say COLORFUL all the way! Think Mimi from the Drew Carry Show.
Which celebrity always has great make-up?

Kate Hudson and Jennifer Anniston. Love those two beauties.
If you had to leave the house and you only had time to put on one make-up item/product, what would you use?

Probably BB Cream. I love Purlise!
Could you ever leave the house without any make-up on?

Yes, and I do quite often.
Do you think you look good even without any make-up on?

I don’t think I look horrible, but makeup totally helps! I’m confident enough with myself that I can go either way.
In your opinion, what is the best make-up line?

Honestly, this is a hard question. I love Pixi and Nars. I don’t think those two have ever let me down.
What do you think of make-up?

I think makeup is wonderful. I love seeing the looks and talent out there. It gives women and men confidence they may not have without it. It can be art. I can’t imagine a world without it!

How to Combat Dry Skin This Winter in 5 Steps

As the seasons change, so does our skin. I know mine gets extremely dry this time of year if I don’t take the proper steps to keep it moisturized. The weather change is to blame! It’s easy to be proactive though, especially if you already have a full routine going for you! Here are my 5 tips to combat dreaded dry skin this season.

  1. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize! That probably sounds like common sense, but I still need to say it! You might need to switch your moisturizer this time of year, I know I do! I change from a lighter moisturizer to a heavier cream in the winter and I make sure to pack on a sleeping mask ever few days for extra hydration. I also break out the body oil for my body after I shower and follow with a heavier body cream.
  2. Exfoliate regularly! You might be thinking I’m crazy, but exfoliation is really important for your skin! Face scrubs and exfoliating masks are perfect a few times a week, or less depending on your skin. Always listen to your skin and start off slow! I also look for products that contain glycol acid or lactic acid, which are chemical exfoliants. It’s best to alternate your chemical and physical exfoliants so you don’t over exfoliate!
  3. Drink water! I know you’ve heard this a million times…haven’t we all??! When the weather gets colder most of us tend to drink more hot beverages like coffee and tea. That’s totally fine as long as we are still hydrating ourselves with good old fashion h20.
  4. Switch out your facial cleanser for a more gentle one. A lot of cleansers contain fragrance for some reason, and that’s a no no when you’re trying to keep your skin from drying out. Switch to something more gentle. I personally have a cleanser for each season, and each mood since I’m a total hoarder, but thats another story!
  5. Last but not least, we all know us women love hot showers, but for the sake of our skin, try to tone it down! Don’t wash your face with hot water, opt for luke warm. Hot water can dry out your skin fast and that goes for your body as well. I’m guilty of taking super hot showers, and I pay the price, believe me. I go through more lotions, balms and thick creams than you can even imagine!
